The most common type of vessels in Greece still being built in Greek
shipyards. It was named after a similar Byzantine vessel called “Trochandira”.
It’s main characteristic is the convex cutwater with the also
characteristic upper end called “Koraki”. It was the main vessel used in
Greek island of Hydra. Trechandiri vessels are still sailing the Aegean
sea for all kinds of purposes: fishing, transportation etc. In their era
their rigging was any of the following: Gaff schooner, topsail schooner,
schooner brig or “Bratchera” (two large square sails).
This
specific model is rigged as a “Bratchera”.
